Fight for your health!

"You can't rewrite your past, but you can grab a clean sheet of paper and write your future." *

These days, we are all spending more time thinking about the meaning and purpose and priorities in our lives. As a health coach who stresses the importance of self care, I believe more than ever that people need to take control of their own health in order to be socially responsible during this Covid-19 pandemic. To do YOUR part in helping with this crisis, you need to be strong and healthy so doctors can focus on the people who need their services, primarily the elderly and immune-compromised and others with preexisting conditions. Eating healthy might not prevent you from getting the virus, but it certainly can help you boost your immunities to stay strong and fight off any infection that comes your way. It could keep you out of the hospital. It could even save your life. Here are some of my health coaching tips that might help you get on the path to better health:

~ Get plenty of rest. Aim for at least 7.5 hours of quality sleep. When your body is rested your immune system is able to do its job better in fighting off infection. Studies show that individuals who don't get enough sleep are more likely to get sick after being exposed to a virus. Click here to read more.

~Eat a rainbow of colorful vegetables. A plant based diet loaded with a variety of nutrient dense vegetables helps strengthen the immune system. Here is a list of my "go to" favorite fruits and


-Citrus fruits such as oranges, clementines and grapefruits. These fruits are loaded with vitamin C. Vitamin C, which is a water soluable vitamin, has been shown to help ward off colds. ( Refrain from eating grapefruits or check with your personal physician before consuming grapefruits if you are currently taking prescribed medications, as grapefruits can interfere with the absorption of certain medications.) -Eat LOTS of cruciferous vegetables such as kale, spinach, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts. Leafy greens are known to contain lots of vitamin C and magnesium. C fights off colds and magnesium boosts exercise performance, helps with insulin resistance, and helps alleviate stress and improve moods. Cauliflower is rich in glutathione, an antioxidant that helps fight off infection.

~Supplement with zinc! Zinc is known to shorten the duration and severity of colds if taken during exposure to a cold virus. If you are not currently sick, opt for getting your daily requirement through food sources. Here are my faves: avocados, chickpeas, grilled organic chicken, and pumpkin seeds.

~ Exercise daily, preferably outdoors in a safe area with lots of vitamin D sunshine. Some doctors are reporting that vitamin D can help us fight off the severe symptoms of COVID-19. Click here to read an analysis of how vitamin D can play a protective role in combating respiratory infections.
