Why I RUN So Darn Much!
Did you know that running is one of the best forms of aerobic exercise you can do, especially when it comes to living longer? You might think I am biased since anyone who knows me, knows I spend more than an hour logging miles most of the days of the week, covering anywhere from 45-70 miles. That may sound absolutely "nutty" to some folks, but the sport truly has a way of de-stressing me and keeping me youthful and energetic. But even if you do think I am biased (and nutty :-) ), the facts are out there that support running as the top form of exercise to keep you physically fit and your mind healthy. According to a recent article in Runner's World magazine, an international study examined 55K men and women between the ages of 18 and 100 and determined that regardless of one's age, gender, or how much junk food or alcohol one consumed, or how how active one has been in the past, if a person begins running just one to two hours a week, he/she can cut his/her risk of cardiovascular death by 45 to 70 percent and his/her chances of dying from a cancer by 30 to 50 percent.* Click here to read a fun story about some marathoners who are living longer than their peers!

Keep in mind that some individuals cannot run due to knee, hip, and back injuries or concerns, so finding another form of exercise is good. Remember, your brain doesn't know the difference between a strenuous spin on a Peloton bike ora gym aerobic class that gets your pulse up or a track race that does the same. The important thing to remember is TO KEEP MOVIN'! As one Bee Fit follower and runner friend of mine likes to say, motion is lotion!
