The Art of Forgiveness

As a holistic health coach, I try to emphasize with clients that good health is not just about what kind of nutritious foods we get on a plate. It is about everything that affects us-- our relationships, our daily interactions with people, our spirituality, our careers, our attitude, and our outlook. Whenever I feel off track, I try to think about my life holistically in order to redirect myself. (Refer back to my post on "Your Circle of Life" by clicking here to read more about this.)

One of the biggest inhibitors to our emotional well being is not being able to forgive. We've all been there. And what's painful is that sometimes the people that hurt us the most are the people we love the most so though it may seem unbearable to forgive, here are my strategies for moving forward towards forgiving:

 

- Allow yourself one or two days to be sad. But that's it. Go out to dinner with a friend or companion who is willing to hear your story and then move on. Make sure the friend is more of a listener. You don't need someone whispering in your ear a revenge strategy. 

 

-Once you've had your pity session, get out the door to exercise to clear your mind. I often find that running helps me think and strategize a plan or makes me realize that life is pretty darn good. Once my run is done, I can approach the situation with a clear head and a sense of calmness.

 

-Don't think about or dwell on getting even. Like the old quote said..."Two wrongs don't make a right." Trust me, you'll feel good over time for taking the high road.  

 

-And never forget: happiness is a choice.
