Make Your Summer Juicy!
It’s summer and the juice craze is hotter than ever! Juice bars are popping up all over -- from Starbuck’s Evolution Fresh to Kale Me Crazy in Atlanta (or fill in the blank with your local popular juice bar). Juicing has been associated with celebrity detoxes and cleanses from Sarah Jessica Parker, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Alba, and more -- and the trend has certainly gone mainstream. The benefits of juicing include: more energy, glowing skin, elimination of toxins, clearer thinking, better overall health, and the holy grail: weight loss! No wonder juice bars are currently the fastest growing “fast food” category. Restaurant experts are saying that the cold-pressed juice market is currently estimated at $100 million a year and is on track to become as popular as coffee chains.
This summer, why not try a juice bar near you? Or make one of my favorite juice recipes below! After a week or so, take notice of your energy level, your skin, your brainpower. I feel like Superwoman when I start my day with my green juice!
Makes 4 servings
Ingredients: • 3-6 organic leaves of swiss chard • 1 handful spinach • 1 peeled organic cucumber • 3 carrots • 1 organic lemon • ½ grapefruit • 1 thin slice of ginger root (dime size) • 1/2 green apple (optional) • ½ orange (optional) • 3 stalks of celery
Directions: • Put ingredients through the juice one at a time. Celery and carrots help to push through the greens!
