Eating Healthy on a Tight Budget IS Possible!

February 12, 2015

Some say it is impossible to eat healthy on a tight budget. I say, it IS possible! Here are some tips that may help you!

-Load up on a variety of healthy vegetables from your local farm stand. Often the prices are cheaper than what you find at the fancy supermarket chains. Meats are pricey, so consume more veggies, fruits, nuts, whole grains, and beans.

- Use produce preserve bags to keep produce fresh longer.

- When possible, buy in bulk AND save by using your coupons!

- Don't consume foods that contain a lot of refined sugars, which can cause your cravings and appetite to increase.

- Eat high fiber foods which can fill you up and keep you satisfied longer, therefore decreasing your spending on the vending machine or on items in the junk food aisle.

-Make your own dessert treats rather than spending on pricey desserts at the bakery which are unhealthy. I enjoy frozen grapes and baked apples with cinnamon and honey. All tasty, healthy, and cheaper!

- Use a re-usable water bottle or buy a water filter and keep a pitcher filled and ready to use.

- Refraining from eating cheap junk at a fast food restaurant will keep you healthier in the long run and away from the doctor's office, which is the most expensive place you can go!
