Detox Challenge! Who's In?
So, what does my one day detox plan look like?
My detox plan includes eating the following foods throughout the day : Avocados, artichokes, kale, cauliflower, cucumber, brussels sprouts or broccoli, wheat grass, arugula, garlic, grapefruit, olive oil, and onions, turmeric flavored brown rice, and watermelon. I eliminate all alcohol, dairy, sugar, processed or packaged foods, and caffeine. I stick to lemon water and herbal teas for my beverages.
See below why some of my detox foods are great at cleansing the body!
Avocados: This "alligator fruit" is making its way onto many doctor's detox lists, even with its high fat content. This fruit is now highly respected because it is loaded with healthy fats which are good for the brain, and its fiber and antioxidant content help curb your appetite and keep you feeling fuller longer. Reach for organically grown avocados and eat them plain during the detox period. GUACAMOLE doesn't count! :-)
Artichokes: Artichokes are known for helping liver function. This miracle vegetable helps your body eliminate itself of toxins. Artichokes increase the liver's production of bile, and since bile helps break down foods, it will help your body do a better job at absorbing nutrients in the foods. Artichokes are also loaded with fiber which aids in digestion.
Broccoli: This green stalky veggie is super powerful when it comes to working with the enzymes in your liver. It helps the body easily break up and rid harmful toxins from your body. Like broccoli, Brussels sprouts and cauliflower are cruciferous vegetables and great detox foods that are loaded with vitamins and fiber.
Garlic: This root vegetable adds flavor to very plain foods but also boosts your immune system.
Grapefruit: Grapefruits are packed with vitamin C and fiber which helps boost the liver's function and aid in digestion.
Kale: Kale is so good for you- just look at Dr. Joel Fuhrman's Food Index Guide! This vegetable has the highest food scoring of all foods ranked in terms of its health value. This vegetable is often recommended to kidney patients because it is packed with many antioxidants and lots of fiber and anti-inflammatory compounds.
Olive Oil: Like the avocado, olive oil is loaded with healthy fats and other healthy properties that help brain function.
Watermelon: Watermelon contains a compound called citrulline, an amino acid that has shown to help the liver and kidney get rid of ammonia in the body. Cucumber also contains this powerful amino acid.
