Healthy Granola With A Crunch!

As per some requests from my Bee Fit friends, here is my homemade granola recipe. I choose to make my own granola because most grocery store brands are loaded with too much refined sugar and do not contain enough of the heathy fats, such as omega 3's. My recipe is based on Jane Brody's Great Granola recipe.


1/4 cup of Earth's Balance olive oil butter spread or Benecol

1/4 cup of Tupelo Honey ( I use Savannah Bee's brand)

3 cups of organic rolled oats ( quick works just as well as regular)

1 cup of sunflower seeds

1/2 cup of chia seeds or flaxseeds ( loaded with omega 3 fats)!

1 1/2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon

2/3 cups of raisins or dried cranberries


In a large 9 * 13 baking pan, melt the buttery spread and add the honey. With the exception of the raisins or cranberries, stir in the remaining ingredients. Bake the mixture in a pre- heated oven at 350 degrees for about 15-18 minutes or until slightly browned. Make sure to stir the mixture several times as it is baking. Remove the granola from the oven and add the raisins or dried cranberries. Cool and store.

Storing the granola in a tight glass jar keeps it fresh for a long time. Tie a ribbon around the top, and you have a nice holiday gift for a family member or friend.
