This month, I will be posting healthy tips for the week. This week's healthy tip is: Get off the sugar roller coaster! Sugar is an addictive, destructive substance. Eating just a little bit creates the desire for more. Suddenly stopping your consumption of sugar can cause withdrawl symptoms ranging from headaches, to mood swings, fatigue and cravings.
Did you know that the average American consumes about 142 pounds of sugar a year!? Take a look at 20 oz sugar bottle of Coke; it has a whopping 65 grams of sugar, which is 15 teaspoons! The above picture shows how much sugar is in a 16.9 oz bottle of sugar. YIKES, right!? This highly addictive substance creates inflammation in the body and runs down your immune system, sometimes leading to diabesity. This disease is a continuum of abnormal biology that ranges from mild insulin resistance to full-blown diabetes.*
The president of Memorial- Sloan Kettering was quoted in an article in April 2011's New York Time's Cover story as saying, " I have eliminated refined sugar from my diet. Ultimately, it's sometihning I can do to decrease my risk of cancer."**
So, Bee Fitters, it's important to understand that everything we put into our mouths promotes health or disease, and sugar is definitely one of those things that promotes disease!
Food determines how we feel and heal, so stay away from refined sugar, Folks!
