Halloween is around the corner, and it is a scary time of year for your health! Why? Because Halloween kicks off a fall season of "celebration treating and feasting." It is frightening when you consider that many people gain five or more pounds between Halloween and Valentine's Day. But don't worry, here are some fabulous tips for keeping you on track!
~ Start every meal off with a glass of water and continue to stay hydrated throughout the evening of celebration. If you are consuming alcohol, try to drink some water before and after each beverage, and remember to drink alcoholic beverages in moderation.
~ Get plenty of rest before and during the holiday season. Appetite can increase by a whopping 25 per cent in people who are sleep deprived.
~ Fill up on a variety of colorful vegetables. Vegetables are loaded with fiber and will help you stay full longer. See my post titled, A Rainbow of Health (October 12, 2014).
~ Get some exercise everyday, even if it is just a short brisk walk with a friend or relative. Exercise helps burn calories and prevents weight gain. It also improves sleep and mood.
~ Stay away from refined sugar. It is highly addictive and has been linked to many diseases.
If you are craving something sweet during this fall holiday season, then, try this recipe below. It's sweet and festive and much healthier than those holiday treats loaded with refined sugar. I will continue to post some recipes for holiday treats throughout the season.
