Get Up AND Go!
Before a big race, I always get nervous. To calm my pre-race jitters, the night before the competition, I read what I call my favorite "get up and go" quotes from some very notable characters in history. Although not all of them were professional athletes, they were quite successful, and their words serve as a source of encouragement. Try reading some before your next big competition, and you might just find that it sets the stage for a better than expected outcome.
~ Get action. Do things; be sane, don't fritter away your time; create, act, take a place wherever you are and be somebody; get action. Seize the moment. Man was never intended to become an oyster." ~ Teddy Roosevelt
~ It's all to do with the training. You can do a lot if you're properly trained." ~ Queen Elizabeth 11
~ Don't look back. Something might be gaining on you." ~Satchel Paige
~ "Ask yourself: 'Can I give more?' The answer is usually: "Yes"." ~ Paul Tergat, Kenyan Professional Marathoner
To add some humor to the moment on the actual race day, I remember some words of advice from W.C. Fields: "Start the day off with a smile and get it over with!"
Happy racing, Bee Fitters! Remember, food (NOT just what's on a plate) determines how we feel and heal!
