Did you know that running is one of the best forms of aerobic exercise you can do, especially when it comes to living longer? You might think I am biased since anyone who knows me, knows I spend more than an hour logging miles most of the days of the week, covering anywhere from 45-70 miles. That may sound absolutely "nutty" to some folks, but the sport truly has a way of de-stressing me and keeping me youthful and energetic. But even if you do think I am biased (and nutty :-) ), the facts are out there that support running as the top...

And springtime is the ideal time to put on your sneakers and go for a run!

The President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports recommends 30 minutes of walking...

hearing! Yes, according to a study mentioned in Prevention Magazine's May 2014 issue, exercising your legs may actually boost your hearing. The recent study concluded that walking just two hours a week helped preserve people's auditory function. Researchers believe that it may be the increased blood flow to the inner portion of the ear, known as the cochlea. So, if you are worried about losing your hearing as you age, pop on your running sneaks and get moving!

As a nutritarian (90 per cent plant based eater), I am always looking for ways to include more protein into my diet, especially since I am an avid runner logging sometimes more than 45-50 miles a week. To get enough, I add wild salmon, or, once in a while, I break open an egg or two. And that's okay, according to a study published in January's issue of the American Heart Journal. One egg packs 6 grams of protein and provides vitamin B-12, which is great news for plant based eaters like myself. Vegetarains and vegans don't always get...

As a holistic nutrition devotee and avid runner who logs 45-50 miles a week, you can imagine how upset I was to read another article warning of the health risks of running. This recent piece in the Los Angeles Times can be found here: http://www.latimes.com/science/sciencenow/la-sci-sn-running-health-20150202-story.html.

Based on their findings, the researchers of a small Danish study published in the Journal of The American College of Cardiology claimed that strenuous joggers had similar mortality rates as sedentary nonjoggers. The...

For the exercise enthusiasts out there who experience exercise induced asthma, there is hope! According to Dr. Harri Hemila, the author of a study in BMJ Open, if you typically feel your airways tighten during your long runs or spinning classes, taking a 1,000-milligram vitamin C supplement an hour to two before working out, can help ease the tightening and keep airways relaxed and open. Always seek the advice of your personal physician if symptoms persist or before beginning any new exercise routine("Women's Health", December 2013).
